The Best Way to Live

Don't be too upset when you see the poor kicked around, and justice and right violated all over the place. Exploitation filters down from one petty official to another. There's no end to it, and nothing can be done about it. But the good earth doesn't cheat anyone--even a bad king is honestly served by a field.

가난한 자가 이리저리 채이고, 정의와 권리가 도처에서 침해당하는 것을 볼 때 너무 열받아 하지 말아요. 착취는 한 말단 관리에서 다른 말단 관리에게로 새어 나가지요. 그런 일은 끝도 없고, 그것에 대해 할 수 있는 것도 없어요. 하지만, 좋은 지구는 어떤 사람도 속이지 않지요. 들판은 심지어 나쁜 왕도 정직하게 섬깁니다.

The one who loves money is never satisfied with money, Nor the one who loves wealth with big profits. More smoke. The more loot you get, the more looters show up. And what fun is that--to be robbed in broad daylight?

돈을 사랑하는 사람은 절대 돈에 만족하지 않습니다. 부를 사랑하는 사람도 큰 이익에 만족하는 법이 없지요. 이것도 헛됩니다. 당신이 노획물을 더 많이 얻을수록, 더 많은 약탈자들이 나타나지요. 뭐가 재미 있다는겁니까? 대낮에 강탈 당하는거요?

Hard and honest work earns a good night's sleep, whether supper is beans or steak. But a rich man's belly gives him insomnia.

열심과 정직으로 일하면, 저녁식사가 콩이던 스테이크던, 밤에 숙면을 얻습니다. 하지만 부자의 배는 불면증을 주지요.

After looking at the way things are on this earth, here's what I've decided is the best way to live: Take care of yourself, have a good time, and make the most of whatever job you have for as long as God gives you life. And that's about it. That's the human lot. Yes, we should make the most of what God gives, both the bounty and the capacity to enjoy it, accepting what's given and delighting in the work. It's God's gift! God deals out joy in the present, the now. It's useless to brood over how long we might live.

이 땅위의 만사가 돌아가는 것을 본 후, 여기 내가 결심한 것이 가장 잘 사는 길입니다. 몸 건강하고, 좋은 시간을 가지고, 어떤 일이건 하나님께서 당신에게 생명을 주시는 한 최대한 활용하세요. 그게 다에요. 그게 인간이죠. 예, 우리는 주어진 것을 받아들이고 일하며 기뻐함으로, 그것을 즐길 관대함와 포용력으로 하나님께서 주시는 것을 최대한 활용해야 합니다. 이것은 하나님의 선물입니다! 하나님께서는 현재, 바로 지금, 기쁨을 나눠주십니다. 우리가 얼마나 살 수 있을지 곱씹어 생각하는 것은 쓸데 없습니다.
